Understanding Irradiance

Irradiance measures the amount of light energy reaching the treatment area and is expressed in mW/cm² (milliwatts per square centimetre).

The Professional Red & Infrared Light Therapy Mat delivers a measured irradiance of greater than 100 mW/cm² when used in direct contact with the body, which is exactly how this product is designed to be used.

Unlike light therapy panels, which are typically tested at a distance (such as 15 cm or 6 inches), this mat is intended to rest directly against the treatment area. Measuring irradiance at 0 inches (direct contact) therefore provides the most meaningful indication of the light energy delivered during normal use.

Because different types of light therapy devices are tested under different conditions, irradiance figures should only be compared when they have been measured using the same testing method and distance.

Consistent use, following the recommended treatment schedule, is generally more important than focusing on the highest irradiance figure alone.
